If you cannot access the BIOS, you can try re-setting it: Remove Main Battery, disconnect from the mains, and remove the CMOS battery for 10min (should be next to the HDD)

Setup Utility - Windows Vista That's a direct link by the way.

Go to the Starting the Setup Utility section.

Personally I wouldn't downgrade to XP however. A lot of reasons for not doing it such as end of life cycle for XP and no support from hp/compaq if you do.

Best of luck.

Oh yes. I might add that you should make your recovery disks before you do anything else in case you are not happy with the end results of your endeavor.
thanks!!!

The laptop originally came with Vista I'm assuming so therefore it would be capable of running Vista quite easily.

Their statement of;

i dont like vista cuz they said this will slow my pc because of the heavy graphics of vista. and they say xp is still the best compared with vista.
leads me to believe they should consider alternative employment and not IT.

I think you have a 1.8GHz processor and 3 GB of Ram. That's actually pretty good unless you're into running games.

I don't have any problem with my 2.5GHz and 2 GB of Ram and I use Vista.
