Post Username and password blank at the Windows Classic Logon Prompt

First of all this involves editing the Windows Registry, if you are not confortable doing this then seek advice from the experts in the forums! Always make a backup of your Registry before editing it. This is so that if things go wrong you can revert back to a working state.

Do you use the Windows Classic logon? Was your username there yesterday, but the box is now blank? This tutorial aims to show you how to fix this error.

Click On Start
Click Run
Type in the open box "regedit" (without quotes) and press enter.

Make a backup by going to

File
Export

Give the file an appropriate name (e.g. the date 21/02/07). Make sure the .reg file extension is selected in the Save As Type drop down box . In the Export Range make sure "All" is selected and then save the file to somewhere such as "My Documents".

Next navigate to:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\System] and create a new string value, or modify the existing value, called "DontDisplayLastUserName" and set it to "1" to enable or "0" to disable the restriction.

and click on Ok
Exit the Registry Editor by clicking the cross in the upper right hand corner of the screen or by going to File then Exit.

Restart for the changes to take effect.
