To see which files are gathered using each setting, clear the prefetch cache located at C:\Windows\Prefetch and then enable one of the settings listed in this hack. Clear the cache and repeat for each setting.

Set the Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters\EnablePrefetcher to 0 to disable prefetching, 1 to prefetch application launch files, 2 to prefetch boot files, or 3 to prefetch as many files as possible.
I think its more like this..

0 = For deactivating the function.
1 = Prefetch for applications only
2 = Prefetch for boot only
4 = Prefetch for applications and boot.

Setting it to 4 comes down to the same as setting it to 0 afaik.

These are the only working prefetch parameters:

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters
Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed below.
Data Type: DWORD Value // Value Name: EnablePrefetcher
Setting for Value Data:

[0 = Disabled / 1 = Application Launch Prefetch / 2 = Boot Prefetch / 3 = Prefetch All]

Exit Registry and Reboot

Have a look here for more info if you want.

I've got a good few...

Right-click "My Computer" and then Properties (System Properties). Take a mental snapshot.
Now for the Registry...

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
RegisteredOwner="[RegisteredOwner]"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\Cen tralProcessor\0]
ProcessorNameString="[ProcessorNameString]"

Since you've backed up your Registry, you can now change the values to whatever suits. Then check the System Properties again.

Have fun
