Trying to backup on an LTO2 drive

Dear all

I am trying to backup some files, actually everything, on an LTO2 tape drive on a Fujitsu server running Windows 2003 R2 OS . I am using NTBackup and the run command string of the scheduled job is the below:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntbackup.exe backup "@C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\data\full backup.bks" /n "FULL DATA BACKUP" /d "FULL DATA BACKUP" /v:no /r:no /rs:no /hc:on /m normal /j "full backup" /l:s /p "LTO Ultrium"

contents of the full backup.bks file :

C:\
D:\
SystemState

Now whenever the time comes to run the backup, nothing happens!! What might be wrong? it worked once or twice with the same job and tapes and now its not working anymore. The backup looks as if it is starting and then goes off immediately. It does this as well even if run manually...pls help

Thanks

The logs says:

Cannot locate the specified media or backup device. This backup operation will terminate.

Ramon,

My sincere apologies for your delay.

I have experience backing up Servers, but have never used NTBackup. Let me see if I can locate someone perhaps more familar with your situation.

You need to break this down with test runs to find the problem.
Create a new backup.bks to rule out problems with the file. Just backup a few directories and give it a new .bks name. Then run the same command but just change the .bks name.

If it work then your problem is the bks file if it dosent work then its in your switches knock one off at a time until you find the one thats wrong.

Try reducing the complexity of the command. If from a cmd prompt you type set
look in the path if system32 is in the path then you can change C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntbackup.exe backup to just ntbackup.exe backup.

You have @C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\data\full backup.bks"

for the file if you create a directory c:\backup and save the file there its a lot simpler and less prone to error.

We assume the tape works Ok

Do you require any further help with this matter an update would be helpful?
When you run the script do you stop the server in the script first so it can backup open files?
