Default 4GB Memory Slow!! SBS 2003!!

Hi everyone,

I have a windows 2003 for SBS running in SP1.
I was trying to use 4GB( 1GB x 4 ) Kingston memory for my server.
But it's extremly slow.
After I take out 2 pair of 1GB which is 2GB.
The server runs like x3.0 faster than running in 4GB.

My server spec:
MB: Intel DG33BU ( It supports 4GB of maxium memory)
CPU: Intel E6550.

Ok.Here is my question: why 4GB run slower than 2GB?
-> Paging file problem?
-> MB is not support server OS?
-> SBS 2003 doesn't support 4GB?

Also, if I have a laptop, can I install SBS2003?
( I know it's not good to run in Laptop, but it's for testing.)

Thank you for your attention.

Indeed, I have heard that having 4GB RAM will make the computer slower. Apparently it's to do with having too much that it doesn't know what to do with itself. I dunno if it's true, though.

It has to with your ram timings. Depending on the motherboard and the ram used it can run slower because the speed the ram runs at drops. Are all 4 of the ram strips the exactly the same brand, etc.

Please post back with motherboard and ram details and I'll be able to hep more.

Boot into BIOS

On the first page it will display the memory mode. Check if its showing Dual Channel-
Go to Advanced > Chipset Configuration

Now change the following settings if they are not already at these:

CAS# Latency 5
Memory Frequency 667MHz
SDRAM RAS Act to Pre 15
SDRAM RAS# Precharge 5
SDRAM RAS# to CAS# delay 5

The placement of the RAM may even make a significant difference - due to overheating and connection.
