Default Win 2003 Standard Server help...

Hello,

I'm new to the forum and I'd like to say thanks in advance for any help.

Ok. I am setting up a 2003 Standard server in a small office and this is my first 2003 server. I've set up 2000 servers with no problems but I'm a little concerned about the 2003 licensing. There are 10 workstations (win 2000) and I have a total of 10 licenses. What should I select as the License setting in the control panel of 2003 - Per Device or Per Server. I don't normally do servers unless requested by a client - so any help would be great!

PS -
This is a stand-alone file server no domain, no active direcory.

Thanks,

Larry

Try this steps:

1. Select Start
Ø All Programs Ø Activate Windows.

2. Activate Windows dialog box will appear. Select Yes, Let’s Activate Windows Over The Internet Now and click the Next button.

3. The Register With Microsoft? dialog box will appear. Click the No, I Don’t Want To Register Now; Just Activate Windows option and click the Next button.

4. You will see a Thank You! dialog box indicating that you have successfully activated your copy of Windows. Click OK.

Hi LMR2040, welcome to the PCHF.

Sorry for the delay to the exact answer for your question.

Per device or per user really depends on what you want the server for - as you want it as primarily a file/print server, and nothing else, i'd highly recommend you use Per Device.

Per user is good for terminal server situations, and that's about it

Let me know if you need any further clarification.
