Question [Answered] Moved HDD from XP box to WinServ2003 box/won't see data

I have about 200 GB of data on a 250GB drive which is not being seen by my Win Server 2003 box that I just moved from a WinXP box. Disk Management says "Healthy" and free space: 100%. I threw it back in the WinXP box and all the data is recognized. Can anyone help me? I'd love to serve up that data instead of just share it across the network.

Edit: Both computers have all NTFS drives and I've switched the jumper configurations and still nothing.

Edit: I've just used Ultimate Boot CD and Active NTFS viewer and can see the files. Windows still does not display the data.

Edit: Now I can see the data in Windows Server 2003. However, Disk Management still says 100% free space. Confused.

Default Re: Moved HDD from XP box to WinServ2003 box/won't see data

most OS's put a 'footprint' on the hd that is installed on it, so that one can't transfer from one box to another and have it be the system drive. If you were swapping out identical builds with identical chipsets, it would be fine, but as this is two entirely different systems, I think the only way to do it would be back up your data, install server 2k3 on it, and then transfer the data from there.

hope that helps,

v
