I am trying to copy windows 2000 to the hard drive and then run the setup from the hard drive. Can anyone tell me how to do this? or is there a better or faster way to do this?

Are trying to copy an image of 2000 or install 2000?
What do you mean by run the Setup?
If installing setup will start once you have loaded the boot disks.

I am trying to put an image on the hd so that i can run setup from the drive instead of using the disk cause I keep getting a .dll file missing when installing from the disk. By the way this is a registered win2k disk w/ sp2.

If you've only got Service Pack 2 then you need to do some serious updates to sp4

This I know, but this is the only disk I have and I have installed this on other computers and it has never given me any troubles. However, when it loads on this pc it cannot find the system32 files so it will not load all the way. Any suggestions?

I'm going to look at this from two angles, you say you want to install an image of 2k to a new machine.
To my mind this won't work, although you have said it has in the past, because the hardware is completely different in the other machines from the original image.
If you are using one disk to install to several machines then you must have a volume license otherwise it would be illegal, is this the case?
You say that you now can't use the 2K cd as it won't find the sytem32 files, to me either the disk is scratched or you have a faulty cdrom drive.

As suggested above, the cd drive may have problems. Ive replaced quite a few that would play movies, audio cd`s, and read data seemingly ok. But if the drive is having read problems, you may not notice it listening to music, or playing a movie, or even reading data files. But when installing an os, its sometimes enuff to cause problems, cause everything needs to be loaded and put in the right spot. If you have a drive cleaning kit, try that, or maybe put a drive from another machine that you know works ok. If the cd is scratched, small scratches can be polished out fairly easily. If you dont have the stuff to do it with, some movie rental places have commercial machines to polish them back to like new condition. Prices here run from 1$ to 5$ .
