Default windows xp x64

ok, i'm not sure what my problem is and if it is even the OS. i just put my computer together on wednesday and i'm having problems already. i'm using an NEC dvd-burner for a cd/dvd-rom and i don't think it's that that is faulty. it won't install games - it reads REAL slow, i've tried ripping images with clonecd, that won't work. i've tried re-installing or just putting a second OS (win xp sp2) on my other harddrive but when i try to boot with the cd, i get errors while loading the windows installation (first it wouldn't load the blue screen and it would freeze and ****...and then some other tries later it said that some files became corrupt - that's balogna, i just installed off this cd on wednesday)

can a dvd-burner ruin cd's and create some kind of "image burn" in an already written cd? i'm really upset right now being that i can't do **** with my computer if i can't install anything.

so the problem might be the NEC dvd-burner but i tried my older dvd-burner (HP 200j) and it does the same ****...is it REQUIRED that i plug cd-rom IDE cables into the secondary or primary slot on the mobo? (i think i have them in the primary because it was easier that way) all the jumpers are correct...when i start up x64 it recognizes everything but it won't run a dang cd.

HELP!

Dex

Hi Dexter.

That would probebly be youre problem. Re-connect the HD to the primairy IDE channel , on the master position. And the DVD burner to the secondairy IDE , also on the master position. (master position is on the end of the IDE cable)
And make sure the jumpers are set to either master , or cable select.

If you use two HD's then putt the second on the primairy IDE as slave , same for an extra cd/dvd rom , putt that as slave on the secondairy IDE as slave. (jumpers aswell)
