---- Problem solved, see below!

Hi,

I?ve been experimenting with the FrontPage Extensions 2002 for IIS on our Windows 2000 Server (already running SUS).? Unfortunately this caused the machine to stop functioning/hanging all web related functions (e.g. Network Connnections, IIS, Internet Explorer etc).? ?:-(

I tried to uninstall the FrontPage Extensions but Add/Remove program would not load!? I rebooted I safe mode and uninstalled them ok I think.

However still nothing web related works.? I can?t access the Services list as that also hangs and I can?t reinstall IIS because the install program keeps hanging.

I'm getting this error in the event viewer:

I?m completely lost as to how things could have gone so wrong!? The event viewer also says something similar to ?Computer Browser failed, error 2550" if that helps and Services shows Computer Browers trying to stop (Service hangs if you try to modify anything).?

Any ideas would be much appreciated?

Welcome to PC Help Forum. I have a little experience with FrontPage extensions, I know they are not always compatible with other Web Design programs. What did you have on your server before you added the FrontPage stuff?

I am not the resident server guru, but the guys around here are terrific. I am sure we will be able to help you resolve this.

However I've come in to work this morning, rebooted the server (again in hope that somehow it will work this time) and it works!!! :-D

I can not tell you how happy I am. :-D

I couldn't reboot too much last week as the susserver also runs an app for backing up some important records (which, for some reason, was not effected by the problems on the server). On Friday I was messing with the Services tree in Windows registry (as the Services mmc crashes). I also deregistered the windows installer service from the command prompt and tried to re-registry it, as read an article on the net somewhere that related to my problem - but it just errored on doing so.

Some how all this messing paid off once I rebooted this morning.

Someone else told me that SUS doesn't like to have anything else installed on it, so I'll just leave it at that and run our intranet from another PC.
