Question [Answered] Need info about RAID drives?

Need some advice, hopefully someone has some RAID knowledge

I am in the process of updating one of our servers, basically we have run out of space.

I am running two IDE drives,
  • FUJITSU MPF3204AT [Hard drive] (20.50 GB) - My OS Hard drive
  • ST380021A [Hard drive] (80.02 GB) - Archive drive, holds old info
So those drives I am not too bothered about. The ones that I am wanting to upgrade is the RAID.

We have three drives in the array and obviously they mirror onto each other.
PROMISE TECH.I2O RAID D SCSI Disk Device (76.86 GB)
PROMISE TECH.I2O RAID D SCSI Disk Device (76.86 GB)
PROMISE TECH.I2O RAID D SCSI Disk Device (76.86 GB)

They are running off? "Windows2000 Promise SuperTrak66/100 (tm) IDE RAID Controller".

My question is as follows:

Should I just buy three more RAID drives (e.g 200GB) and put them into the array and remove the 80GB.

Or should I purchase another lot of RAID Drives and an extra RAID Controller.

Are there any compatibility issues with running 2 RAID controllers at the same time?

What kind of array are you going to be running them on? 0,1 0-1? That will help with a decision as well.Because if you buy three more you can have it in 0 or 1 , depends on if you want the speed or the backup potential

Thanks for the reply merlin, in the end I decided on going for a "promise ultratrak sx4000", works a treat.

Ya promise makes some good raid controllers. Now just get a couple of raptors in there and you'll be good to go :-D
