Unhappy Data recovery

Hello All

I have a windows 2000 server in a raid 5 config on which i cant access windows but i need to backup files off it before i can format and start new...i can get to the dos prompt after the raid array starts and can traverse through the drive and see all the files...the problem is that i cant connect a large enough drive to it to pull the files that i need as the USB slots dont work at the point that i am stuck...any idea if there is a way to load the USB drivers and get the slots working so i can move files over to an external drive? i may be attacking this problem incorrectly so any advice is welcome...thanks in advance!

Hi makram123, welcome to PCHF.

This link may help: Bootdisk.Com - DOS USB Drivers

But I would personally stick in another small HDD (if possible), load Windows onto it and then copy the data off that way.

thanks, ill give that a shot

as for your other suggestion, is it possible to connect a secondary drive to a raid array? as in master/slave configuration? is that what you meant? if so, please let me know...

Yep, that's exactly what I mean. You shouldn't have to mess with your current RAID 5 configuration (because you could screw up your data), and the drive can be kept as a seperate entity from the RAID 5 set. You should see it as another drive.
