Unhappy [Pending] SBS 2003 - multiple critical automatic Services not started

Our DC SBS 2003 has a major problem. After a reboot none of our networked client computer could see the network server. Checking the Services I noticed that many of the Services which should have started autonatically have not done so. When trying to manually start these Services I get the following errors:

Error 1053: the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion

or

Error 127: The specified procedure could not be found

Some of the Services that have not started are:
DHCP, DNS, Alerter, all the Exchange services, Net Logon, Network connections, network DDE, Print Spooler,

I've tried a reboot several times, Sometimes the server just hangs and doesnt do anything, othertimes it will start and allow logon but heaps of the services are stopped.

Many errors in the event logs. the first one logged after a reboot is:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: NTDS General
Event Category: Internal Processing
Event ID: 1168
Date: 24/07/2007
Time: 16:59:52
User: NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON
Computer: CP-SERVER
Description:
Internal error: An Active Directory error has occurred.

Additional Data
Error value (decimal):
1053
Error value (hex):
41d
Internal ID:
30004f5

I think I may have to go down the recovery or re-install option, but am trying to find a resolution first. HELP PLEASE!

Hi bertster, welcome to the PCHF.

All the services not starting up in a timely fashion generally means that the server didn't actually reboot...do you have a monitor attached to it? Have you seen it boot up all the way into windows?
