Default Help with Performance Issues

Hey all, I have a PC here at work. It's a 1.5 mHz processor and I just added another 512 of RAM for a total of 768Mb. I should have tons of memory capable of handling anything I need it too, but I will often have periods where the machine slows down alot. Looking at the processes running there doesn't seem to be too much actively eating up memory, but there are definitely spikes in the CPU usage. Can somebody suggest a plan of attack for finding out what it is that is causing this slowdown? BTW, my OS is Windows 2000.

Cheers,

Shawn

Hey styerman!
Welcome to PC Helpforum!

When was the last time that machine was formatted?
Also what kind of harddisk has it got, and how full/empty is it?

Blue

Default Thanks - will do

Hey genie3251, I will do that and get back with the results.

Bluefish......I have no idea when the system was last formatted as I just started for the company and took over a previous employees PC......I'm guessing a long time ago as it has alot of data on it from numerous biological studies.....years worth.

Also what kind of harddisk has it got, and how full/empty is it?
It has a WDC WD800JB-00JJC0 harddisk, 80GB, about 30GB of which is free.

Thank-you both.

Hya Styerman , sorry for the late reply. Youre post must have been missed somehow.

I don't see any malware problems in youre logs , only there are lots and lots of Norton services running. Norton System works is know to be a resource hogger.

But lets see if a registry cleaning helps:

install and run RegSupremePro.
It will want to make a backup of your registry , let it. Once it has finished, click on the Registry Cleaner tab, select Aggressive. When it has completed, click on Select, choose All. Click on Fix, and let it fix everything that it finds.

And have you also defragmented the HD lately?
