So apparently Windows 98 has no native support for USB drives. I searched every where for drivers for my HP v100w 8GB USB drive and HP does not offer drivers. Is there any way to get USB drives to work with Windows 98?

Thank you! This worked quite well. For the record, this is what I did exactly (for others who come to this topic for help):
Download the file and save to desktop > right click my computer > properties > device manager > remove all "unknown" and USB drive devices > run downloaded EXE > finish program > restart computer *insert USB device (in this case the HP v100w 8GB)* start > settings > control panel > add new hardware > next > next > select hard ware to install (in this case the v100w) > next > finish > click reinstal driver > next > select "search for a better driver than the one your device is using now. (Recommended) > next > select all areas to search > pop up "Do you want to install and run 'C:\\WINDOWS\TEMP\direct.b1'?" answer yes > next > finish Windows will then automatically find the USB device! |

You're welcome. Glad they worked for you. I don't have any win 98 computers so I couldn't try them out myself to make sure they worked. Thanks for posting the installation procedure you used, I'm sure it may help someone else in the future with the same problem.
