I have a Fujitsu B Series Lifebook Im trying to restore. It has a external usb floppy drive that works. I formated the hard drive with a windows 98 se boot disk, that worked good. I ordered a used Panasonic 8x PCMCIA CD-ROM PLAYER model # KXL-783A so I can load a fresh copy of windows 98 se. I cant get it to work! I have no os so I cant load from inside windows, the drivers that is. The drive came with a setup disk for dos, windows 3.1, 95, nt and os/2 warp. How can I get this cd rom to work with no os on it. I've tried everything I could think of. The bios supports usb floppy, hard drive and boot add in card. I know I need to load the driver for the card and the cd rom on the boot disk. I tried to edit the config.sys and the autoexec.bat. on the boot disk with the dos drivers on the setup disk that came with the cd rom. Dont know to much about dos! Im not old school just new age! Frustrated, someone please help. Whats bad, Im a computer tech.

Hi defrag32,
Sorry for the delay in getting to your thread. I'm assuming from above that you've booted off the Win98 boot floppy and tried to change drive to the cd rom and that it can't find it. When you boot off the floppy does it load the generic Oak cd drivers? If you can see the cd drive in BIOS, even if you can't boot off it then the boot disc should recognise it too. Try the doing the following on the win98 boot floppy disc. It will save you having the edit autoexec.bat and config.sys Find oakcdrom.sys and rename it to oakcdrom.old Copy the .sys file for your cd drive to the same location on the boot disc and rename it oakcdrom.sys Try booting off it - can it detect the cd rom now? |
