My mom has an old pc w/ windows 98 installed. I trying to be a good son and help her go onto the internet without any big expenses ( buying a new pc and all ) I have tried to set up her i/e without any luck. I have changed the profile for lan settings under the connection tab and have checked the box for auto detection and can see on the taskbar that there is a connection but the explorer default window continues to pop open stating that there is no connection. There is no pop up blocker installed either and can't figure this out. Again I am trying to save $$ and am trying to just get her i/e to work along with her outlook for e-mails.
Thanks for any assistance.

Welcome elee360! We will do our best to help you resolve this for your mum.
Could you please go to a DOS prompt -> Start -> Run -> type -> cmd {enter} At the DOS prompt type -> ipconfig /all {enter} post the results of that query back into this thread please. Thanks! Oh yes, it would be good to know - what sort of connection (Cable/DSL/Dial-up) and home network setup does your mom have?

Before you even TRY to get the Internet up and running, you need a Anti-Virus Program to protect you computer. I recommend Avast

It could be that your moms Ethernet port is no longer working try installing a network card on your pci slot in the back of the computer and see if that works. good luck

Please could you post:How to post your computer specifications.
You may need an eithernet hardware driver. The computer manufacturers website support tab should give you the driver download for your mum,s make and model of computer. If you are direct connect to the modem or using a wireless router try rebooting the computer/modem and router. Could you do as DCiAdmin requested.
