NEED to get an old HP currently running ME to XP. Have 2 XP upgrade disks that it doesn't like. Downloaded 98 boot from bootdisk.com and seemed fine. Until "this version of windows runs only on ms-dos 8.0". Every time I think I am making progress, I get stuck. Been at this for days....really frustrated - any suggestions?

Ok I am not great with win 98 and ME.

Although I find ME an issue on its own.

Have you tried removing the hard drive and fit in another computer and format as a slave to get rid of ME then replace into origonal PC and then try a format again?

Read the article and then use Method 2, you will find the upgrade install will work OK...
