Hello,
Frequent question on forums, but haven't found a proper URL for procedure.
I want to install Win98SE and some softwares such as OpenOffice, Thunderbird, etc. on a USB 1Gb memory stick, cause I want to be sure to be able to access my files where ever I want and not with some Linux distrib.
I have a Win98SE CD-Rom and other software as CD-Rom or on my HDD.
One of my PC is running under Win98SE and has floppy, CD-Rom, USB2.0
Another one is with WinXP, DVD, USB2.0 but not floppy.
How will I install Win98SE on this 1Gb USB card or USB HDD?
I ought to be able to specify to install Win98SE on F:/ drive - my USB stick. But how???
Thanks,
Phil.

Hi there! - Welcome to PCHF - where the team will advise.
My brief research seems to indicate you can't make a 98SE bootable USB stick, because of the drivers issue. List of live CDs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. If all you want to do is carry Open Source around with you then it is getting the recipient PC to recognise the USB device. Others in the forum, hopefully, know better.

What about:
1/ formating a partition on the harddrive of the size of the USB key and installing Win98SE on this C partition? 2/ Then installing softwares and USB generic driver 3/ then make an image copy onto the USB key? Anyone has ever tried? |

The problem there is that the computer still can't see the information, which would then include the driver. kinda like being on the wrong side of a locked door, with the key on the other side

There's no need to go to all of the trouble of installing a operating system on a flash drive.
Go here to Portable Apps, and download the Portable Apps Suite, it has all of the apps that you what want on a flash drive... PortableApps.com Suite and PortableApps.com Platform | PortableApps.com - Portable software for USB drives
