I've had AVG for several years (free version). I have tried AVAST and it seemed like it slowed this old dinosaur system down even further. What would you suggest is the all around best that would be free? I'm willing to try AVAST again if suggested to do so vs the AVG. I'm running WinPatrol on it also and it seems like there are a lot of things listed that could be trojans etc., that perhaps the AVG isn't catching. I'm not real literate when it comes to computers so be kind please...Thanks!

Just out of curiosity why are you thinking of getting rid of AVG? While there are better products out there-AVG is a good choice for a free anti virus program.
Jmaster3265 - None of those anti-virus' will work with Windows 98 as he stated in the title.
AVG7 is no longer supported by Grisoft. And AVG8 will no longer work with Windows 98. However, it will still recieve updates until December 31st, 2008. After that, there will no longer be updates that are crucial to system security.
Thanks people. I will stick with AVG for now, since the others don't support win98. Avast just seems to slow it down so much, but might try that later. Thanks again for all the informative answers. Port
You could Try Stopzilla! and Mcafee too
I tried Stopzilla but I had to go online to register for it to handle the viruses, You can buy them on CD-ROM at a store, But I would rather use Mcafee
