Default Cannot run BIOS Agent 3.4

I have a presario 1584 that a few years ago one of their Tech Support people had me remove every driver from Windows (I am not sure why). He told me I could download and install all the drivers again from Compaq's website. I tried but the computer never worked right again. Just recently I treid running the Quick Restore disk but it is not recognized. I did some research and found that the BOMID was probably removed. I went to your site to the utilities page and downloaded the BIOS agent 3.4 but when I try to open it I get: This program has performed an illegal operation etc
It says: BIOSAG caused an invalid page fault in BIOSAG.EXE at 0167:00409fe. I really want to fix up this old computer for my daughter to use until she can afford to buy a new one. Any ideas? I would love to get the BIOS to recognize the Quick Restore Disk and just get it run like it should.
Thanks,
Matt

Oh right ..sorry. I installed Windows 98se from a different disk, but it does not have Word 97 or any of the other bundled programs that the Quick Restore CD has on it. I have downloaded severasl critical updates (moslty security updates for wwindows and several security updates for IE6). Is there a particular update that would help?

Certainly doesn't tell me much. How do you flash a bios to get it to recognize the OEM Quick Restore disk when you cannot get the necessary information?

From the above information does anyone happen to know how to replace or reset the BOMID? There have been two numbers the have come up (I think) associated with the BIOS. One is 686U1 and the other is 05A8h. Not quite sure how they apply. I have searched the Compaq/HP site and they certainly keep this part difficult (if not impossible) to figure out. The number on the QR cd that is displayed when it is inserted is U6105CD1Q7, if that is of any meaning.
Kinda feel like I am almost in over my head.
Thanks,
Matt
