Default Bootable Disks Windows 98

Good evening everyone,

I recently downloaded the Windows 98 Startup Disk software and made a bootable disk. I am experiencing problems with Windows. I have three files that are damaged or corrupted. I am trying to perform the SYS command to copy files from the CD. My system prompts me and I enter the following command: SYS C:, the program responds with an "Invalid function" message. Does anybody have any recommendations?

I have essentially lost my windows partition on my pc and I am trying to use the Startup Disk to reconstruct the Windows environment. I've checked my important directories and all of my files are there. Something happened to the Windows Partition.

Any feedback would surely be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ron

Hi Red I'm not 100% sure what going on with your PC. But the command your after is sys c: with out the , this will copy the system files form the boot disk to your c: drive. What is the problem your having with the PC and booting?

Madmatt2006, thanks for responding...yup I know the command is Sys c: I included the comma in my commentary to indicate i had more to say. This is the problem. One morning I woke up and could not gain access to my windows environment. I booted up my machine and received the following message:
The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS.00\HIMEM.SYS
C:\WINDOWS.000\DBLUFF.SYS
C:\WINDOWS.000\IFSHLP.SYS

I can see the Microsoft(R) Windows 98 Copyright message and the last message that appears is the following:
Cannot find WIN.COM, unable to continue loading Windows

- Ron

I was trying to use the Windows 98 Startup Disk to restore these file

on the hard drive with the windows folders is there a c:\windows folder without the .000. You can get the files back like this Error Message: The File C:\Windows\Himem.sys Is Missing or Corrupted but the windows.000 folder means it has been reinstalled before or some thing similar

Re-install Windows 98 over the copy you have. Everything will still be there when you are done. I've done this several times, but a long time ago. It's hard to go back and remember, but I just fixed my brother in laws pc and I re-installed 98, then he had problems again. He has a old computer. I then put a new hard drive in and installed windows xp prof and kept the windows 98 as a slave drive so he could get all of his documents. He loves it and it's working fine for him. Too slow for me, but he loves it. The pc only holds 256.00 memory the bear min for xp.
