one thing with the hard drive your aware you won't see the full size of the hard drive because of the limit of windows 98 and in an older pc the hard drive will have an IDE connection not SATA for the hard disk. Good luck with the reinstall it is the best option also remember that your windows appears to be installed in the C:\WINDOWS.000\ folder.

Good luck with the re-install. What kind of as400 software do you have? I also had as400 software on for my old job (but on windows XP) and it worked. But it was only client access nothing for programming or anything. Oops on the specs for mem on windows xp I thought it was 256..it's been awhile since i've had to worry about how much memory is there for xp.

Well, I seem to have run into a glitch on the re-install of Windows 98. Since I am having problems with the following files:
HIMEM.SYS, DBLBUFF.SYS, IFSHLP.SYS

As an end result, the message states, "Cannot find WIN.COM, unable to continue loading Windows.

I don't think I will be able to re-load Windows 98 under these conditions. Does anybody have any work-around alternatives?

I'm going to have to stick with Windows 98 instead of XP because i have some unique software on my box that i use with my AS/400. I will keep every posted because I know that i may have questions later.

Perhaps those particular apps would work with XP in "compatibility mode"... XP has a unique feature allowing you to run older software in a simulated older OS environment.
Just an idea...

Run Older Programs on Windows XP
