This site used to be a great help, what the heck happened ???
I have been trying for over a week to get rid of a new icon in my system tray and have been sent to Hijack This log forum and all over the place with absolutely no help what so ever. I even drew a picture of the new icon in the system tray yet nobody has been able to assist me. Not being too computer smart i have always relied on your great site here but I guess I need to look elsewhere for help. Thanx for your past assistance it has been greatly appreciated.
Jim

You could take a screen shot of the icon by pressing PrtScn (Insert) then paste it in Paint or whatever you use, then upload it somewhere and link it here.

It looks exactly as I show it in my drawing, nothing is different. It seems us windows 98 users are falling by the wayside

people should remember that the helpers on this site give there time freely, and do have a life elsewhere.
not all problems are that easy to solve and take a great deal of time and effort.

I more than understand Murph, which is why I always used your site in the past and highly recommend it. It just seems this problem has sort of ran it's course and now I am stuck with this icon in the tray and I am afraid to go into any of my sites that require passwords so I don't end up getting screwed somehow, it has ruined my banking, e-bay and paypal abilities.

Hi-- I see from your other threads that a Security Team Member was working on your problem with you--unfortunately none of the Security guys are online right now-- I will send a general PM to all of them for your thread with the HJT logs in it. I do apologize for the delays-- but Security matters are limited to Team members ... for your protection largely.

Re: This site used to be a great help, what the heck happened ???
epackage:
Sorry for the delay, holiday, easter, 3 year old, that equates to not much time in front of the monitor. Luckily F1 is racing late today, so I can clear up some backlog.
First, let's get a hjt log. I will try to check tomorrow, but no promises, but absolutely guarantee that I will be checking it by 7 a.m. CST US on Monday at the latest. Again, my sincerest apologies. I understand how frustrating it can be at times.
Please do the following to download and install the latest version of HijackThis v2.0.2:
CLICK HERE to download the HijackThis Installer:
- Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
- Double-click on HJTInstall.exe to run the program.
- By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
- Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.
- Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
- Click "Save log" to save the log file and then the log will open in Notepad.
- Click on "Edit -> Select All" then click on "Edit -> Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
- Come back here to this thread and paste the log in your next reply, along with the smitfraudfix log.
- Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
You may delete the older version once you have successfully downloaded and installed the latest version of HijackThis v2.0.2.
thanks,
v

Actually, I see that Dahli is helping you out here. I'm going to close this one, please respond to dahli so we aren't stepping all over our toes trying to fix what the other one has already fixed.
Thanks,
v
