Default Tcp Ip ??????

I want to know if in my Network Settings in my control panel if I should have more than 1 TCP/IP ? I have a dial-up , a second dial-up and my cable modem. Do I need to get rid of the dial-up adapters that are shown. I was having a problem staying connected and was getting a DNSERROR message and was unable to stay connected to the internet. I came here and researched it and did what was listed in a previous help forum and that seemed to work. Now I am just wondering about what should and shouldn't be in the Network Settings.
