Default [Answered] Broken PC

I got a computer from a friend and he had forgoten the password to it so I decided that it would be best to start over. I deleted the partion and started a new one, I had thought that this was the way to go. Now it says that I have no operating system on the computer. Do have to get a new operating system now in order to use that computer or is there a way to get back the operating system without a cd? I currently only have floppy disk to use and don't have any cds. I really need help on this, and if I need to get a new operating system do I have to have the cd or is there a way to get it off the net. I currently don't have alot of money to spend.

Hello SonicDemon, welcome to PCHF.

Double check with your friend that he doesn't have the CD, every PC with an OS should have it's only legal CD with registration and activation key. If you don't have both of these, then you can purchase a new one from here: Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows XP Home With SP2B 1 Pack - OEM

That was the cheapest I could find Sonic.

There are alternative Operating Systems such as Linux which are free (Linux Online - Some facts about downloading Linux), but you will not be able to get a free legal version of Windows.

EDIT: Marked as Answered.
