Default [Answered] Security Software Windows ME

My sister just got a new computer running Windows ME and I'm having some trouble finding some decent firewalls/anti-virus/anti-spyware that will work with Windows ME. If you have any suggestions please link specifically to the download for the Windows ME version, because if I click on the big download button on the main download page it might give me the XP version since I'm downloading them on an XP machine.

Thanks!

Hi Wolfdude ME is the worst version of windows ever released do you have XP you can load on it? I would get rid of ME all together just terrible O/S should never have been released in my opinion.

I completely agree. Unfortunately it has only 128 megs, so XP is definitely out of the question. My dad just took it out of a storage room at his office where they keep electronics they don't need anymore and people can take them or they just get thrown away.

I could put Ubuntu on it but nobody seems to agree whether 128 megs is enough to run Ubuntu at a decent speed or not.

Well I don't know if you aware but xp will actully run with 64Mb of ram recommended 128Mb so you could run it would the CPU happen to have MMX ?

If it is just for basic use it will run fine just a little slow but if the are other older PC you could slvage some more RAM

I have a PC here at workk it a intel 200MMX 64MB ram and it runs it well

I don't know what MMX means, but looking around through the hardware I didn't see any mention of it. My sister is just going to use it mostly for flash-based sites, instant messaging, and listening to music. I'll give XP a try on it. If she complains it's too slow I'll give her Ubuntu. If she complains that's still to slow I'll give her Windows 98. I have a lot of options here, lol.

I'll let you know how that goes tomorrow; I'm going to bed soon. Thanks for the help.

If its better than this Intel® Pentium® Processors with MMX™ Technology for Embedded Computing - Overview or equivelant it will be fine for those tasks. Once it's loaded XP tweak it and get some up to date protection at least you will find some for XP
