Hi, No i didn't find the cd's i spent ages looking for them yesterday, the only reason i had that one was because it was in the drive, i might have got rid of them, I never thought that pc would be used again, i only got it out the other day because i have this old Genius kids ball that will only work on windows 98, i wont work on xp,
Well i look for a network connection and it has a modem line in and next to it it has a telephone line, i looked in the device manager and it is listed under Network adapter, and its called Dial-Up Adaptor, and in Other detected devices it lists a Compaq Modem Audio, { i think this old dinosaur pre broadband; lol} Couldn't i put a ethernet card in?

Yeah sure, you have been in and around... and inside a PC to know roughly what to do. The first thing you'll need to check is to make sure you have a spare PCI slot inside your PC. Your PCI slots are white and look like this:



Once this is confirmed, you can purchase a cheap network card that will slot in easily, and there should be a single screw that holds the backplate in place. ^ The reason why I've picked out this specific network card (you may be able to find cheaper on e-bay), but the D-Link DFE series network cards come with a floppy disk version of the driver, and I can talk you through installing it if you run into any probles.

As for the drivers you have remaining in device manager, I'm not sure if you want to wait for the network card to be installed first. I'll supply links to these drivers, and then you can download and install them directly from your Windows 98 PC, instead of transferring them from PC to PC?

Anyway thanks for all of your help, i didn't think we were going to get this going and it never would have without your help, i really would have taken it to the dump by now, lol, this is the first time i have been on a site like this, I wish i had found it earlier! lol,

When your ready, here are the drivers you need. You don't necessarily need to install them if your not going to use them, you can just right click and disable them in device manager.

The audio driver can be found here:

For the CD-ROM, there are two options:
1) Remove the CD-ROM and find out the model number of the CD-ROM. I'll need this to find the driver. -or-
2) Use the same DOS based driver that you used to setup Windows in the first place. This is an easy fix, but will mean the starting up your PC will be a little slower.

Once we resolve these driver issues, it will also resolve the "unetbios.vxd" error you've been receiving also.

Oh, and this you might found interesting. I found out a little more about the disk you said looked like the BIOS setup. Have confirmed it is indeed, and is called a ROMPaq, downloadable from here: ROMPaq for HP Notebook System BIOS – DOS Bootable Diskette HP Pavilion Notebook ZE4201

Hi Again, You know its funny about that boot disk, i think something like this happened before to this computer and i must have hunted it down {You can't change the boot order in it but most other things you can} and the diagnostic disks,
I have been trying to work out about that windows 98 cd that i have, remember you said It's not a normal setup CD, It is not a Jolly Rodger, lol there is no doubt it, it is a microsoft cd, but it is not a lot of good to most people because it is really hard work to boot from, {I would have never got it to work!} its really odd! lol I just can't remember where i got it from,
