Default [Fixed] "Microsoft Registry Checker" startup problem

Ok, here is the Huge problem I am having. I was told to run RegistryScan and I did. Since that time whenever I start my comp. it has to run "Microsoft Registry Checker " before I can get online. This takes 20 minutes to do which is an obvious problem. I am not too comp. literate, I really just use it for e-bay and news and some music downloads so any help in ridding myself of this problem would be great.

I did a google search and someone said to open in "command prompt only" and when the C:/> came up to type in scanreg /fix and when I did this and hit enter it ran "Microsoft Registry Checker" again. I was then told to try scanreg /opt and when I did and hit enter the comp. made some noises but after a few seconds the blinking C:/> came up again under the first one . Any ideas ???

Hi there epackage,

Is this program starting before you get into Windows?

Yes Hengis, it takes 15 or 20 minutes to "rebuild system Registry" and I get a message that it found a problem it couldn't fix and to delete some files and run it again all this before I am able to get online. It didn't say which files and I am not to computer smart so I didn't want to delete anything

So, please confirm that - before you get to the Windows desktop - the Registry Checker program starts. OR does it run as soon as the Windows desktop starts?

It shows the Windows startup window then it goes to the registry checker, it runs as follows
"Repairing C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.DAT" after it runs to 75% I get this message under "REGISTRY RESULTS"
Windows found an error in your system files and was unable to fix the problem. Try deleting some files and free up disk space on your windows drive. If that doesn't work then you will need to install windows to a new drive.
I then hit enter and it then loads windows and I am online
