Hi all, I have an older Gateway running windows 98. I don't really know much about computers, figured I should let you know, the thing is it seems to be a bit sluggisn when opening new pages and just slow overall performance. I really only use it for e-bay and some music and movie downloads. When I first start it the performance rating is about 86% after being on for a while it drops to 77% according to the performance tab in My Computer. I run the defragmenter daily and spybot daily. Is there something I can do that will get me running at it's best speed, something I need to get rid of or look into ? Any help would be great just keep in mind that I am not too computer savy

How much RAM do you have in that old feller?
Have you run any maintenance recently, such as Defragmentation?
How many programs are you running at one time?

Hi Hengis, I have only 128 ram and I run defrag every day. The only things running are my norton anti virus and msn messenger besides what I am looking at. Is it just time to upgrade to a new tower like the Vostro ?

its always good to upgrade if you have the $$$$.


try to scan your registry, and see if your PC contains any errors.

Just remember to backup your registry first (the program should contain such feature).
