Unhappy USB Drive Problem

How do you get a computer to recognize a flash drive? Whenever I insert my thumb drive into the port, nothing happens, & I can't find a way to access it on the computer (there isn't an icon for the drive in My Computer or anywhere I've looked).

unlike windows xp the drivers for flash drives are not preloaded into windows 98.

you have to download them from their respective site, for example if your flash drive is kingston then gotoKingston Technology Company - Flash Homepage - Flash Homepage

but if you insert the drive nd no "add new hardware dialog box" opens then remove the flash from the unknown devices
but first you must see if your flash drive has not been put into the unknown devices, what you do is right click on my computer>>properties>>device manager

there in the unknown devices you flash must be listed, click on it and press the remove or uninstall button. ow without inserting the flash, install the downloaded driver and once it is installed insert your flash drive and it will install itself.

hope i helped

Just a bit of fore warning...if this isn't Windows 98SE you'll have alot of hassel running USB drives.

USB came out in mainstream after Windows 98 was released...good luck

Didn't know that; very interesting, Gar. Now I further understand why I needed to upgrade my old computer to use the USB wireless adapter. Is it just me, or is a world without USB hard to even imagine?
