Lightbulb going back to win98

hi all
ive been trying to install xp pro on me fujitsu lappy but im going back to win98,the lappy
has been partitioned and formated, when i boot with the 98 when i start it with a 98se boot up disk and after its finished loadin the drivers it gives me 4 options
1/help
2/with cdrom support
3/without cdrom support
4/minimal boot
i then click on option 2 with cdrom support then its starts to load drivers then it will stop and says device MSCD001 not found cdrom drivers not selected then it will go into a command promt, although in the bios it is set up as follows
floppy drive
cdrom drive
harddisk drive
im trying to boot it from usb external cdrom ive google MSCD001 and it turns out to be the usb external cdrom and it says i need drivers for it,how can i load drivers into it when its stuck in limbo, after a few hours of playing about with this i did summat and it took me to like a walk thru set up with lots of yes and no questions,so i started pressing yes then i relised i could be doing summat wrong so i stopped half way thru, now if i reboot i get a 98splash screen for a split second then it goes into a cmnd promt like this C:/
is there any other way of installin win98 without the use of a cdrom, cos the Hdd is blank and dosnt see any cdrom drives thru usb ports, the only other option i can think of is to take the Hdd out of the lappy and puttin in a desktop pc and installin it thru that way,but i dont have a desktop only another laptop

i hope someone understands this post cos i dont lol

thanks...

Default Re: going back to win98

You need to find the appropriate DOS USB drivers for your external cd rom drive.

Once you do, I'd copy the install folder to the hdd and run it from there so that you don't have to keep worrying about ensuring the drivers are running.

Oh and you won't be able to boot the external USB CD drive with Win98. Have a look at the Bootdisk site for various options. If none of those work then you will need the specific USB DOS drivers from your CD-Rom manufacturer.
