Question [Answered] Connect ME to XP via USB?

I have a laptop with ME and desktop with XP Pro. Tried to connect a USB data transfer cable and ME gives me an error message: NTKERN.VXD could not load this device. I can't find NTKERN.VXD in either system or on either setup disks. How can I get this to work?

You can download NTKERN.VXD from Free Download DLL and Support Forum.
At the website, click on VXD, then click on N.

I got the vxb file, and thanks for the tip. Then it wanted usbntmap.sys and usbstor.sys, both of which I found. Get message that the vxd loader "could not load the device driver" and that the best driver "usbstor.inf" is already loaded. Any other ideas?

I've never tried to connect two computers just via a USB connection. I've done it via comm ports. I would recommend you get a cheap router and connect the two computers and the internet into the router. That is what I have done with my computers.

Or, maybe someone else know how to make a straight USB to USB path work.

Good Luck...

Hello Sevens,

A USB to USB connection is not a good idea. You need a special bridge cable to do this correctly. The following link will explain more. Look at questions 5 and 6 in the faq...

USB.org - FAQ: Cables, Connectors, and Networking

I purchased a USB cable w/disck from Radio Shack for around $30 (U.S.) In stall disk and just follow the promts, from that point on you can see both computers on ONE screen,,,,,,,,then just drag and drop, Bingo it is done that quick.

I do believe that you can get the same thing at "WorldStart" by going to their search,,,,,

www.worldstart.com

I have purchased many programs, hardware and etc from them and it has always been good quality.

Good Luck,,, Rich
