Default [Pending] CD/DVD rom problems

Hi i am having problems with the CD/DVD ROM in a laptop that i have. It is running windows NT 4.0 and the CD/DVD ROM will only play DVDs and not CD's. The default CD player is windows media player. When i place a DVD into the drive there is no problems it loads power DVD and plays away, but when i put in a CD you can hear it getting up to speed but then you hear it shutting down and the CD does not play. When you go into my computer and click on open the CD it says Please insert a disk into drive D. I have tried re-seating the DVD/CD ROM and it opened the CD and started to play but then i tried another CD and I'm back to the same problem.

Please can someone help me.

My first thought is reinstall the drivers for your CD/DVD drive.

Good Luck...

Do you require additional assistance with this problem?
