Hi i have a friends Dell laptop and they have asked me to try to fix it for them, The laptop is running Windows NT 4.0 and my problem is that the CD/DVD ROM will not play Cd's but has no problem playing DVDs. I'm not sure what info you need from me but i have tried going into device manager and DVD ROM properties and it says device working properly. The CD/DVD ROM is a LG DVD-ROM DRN8080B if that helps. My default CD player is windows media player.

Try uninstalling the device in the Device Manager and then rebooting. Was any new DVD/CD burning/playing software installed recently?
