Default [Answered] Error on startup CPU has been changed

This is my first post - I am a novice. Computer is Windows 98 SE - main processer is Intel Celeron. On startup computer stops on first page saying: CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded. Warning! CPU has been changed. Please enter CPU speed CMOS setup and remember to save before exit! Bottom says press F1 to continue DEL to enter setup.

I have no idea what/where to enter CPU speed and if I need to do anything with CMOS.
Is this on PC Health Status page.

Thanks for your help

Hello moonblue,

Welcome to PCHF.

There are a few possiblities here, however the most common is the PC Battery needs to be replaced. You may also notice that the clock on the PC is also falling behind.

You can purchase these batteries from: Lithium CR2032 3V Battery for motherboards - Can Computer - Low Prices, High Quality, Unbeatable Value - Canada's Leading Online Computer Retailer

Using these instructions: CMOS BATTERY
