Default Help me before I kill W98

I got a larger HD for my laptop and must install Windows 98 so I can upgrade to ME (I only have the upgrade disc). I have the drive partitioned but my computer doesn't seem to think I do since it says that no partition exists on startup. I make my way through the W98 installation up to the point where it restarts, then upon restarting it starts the installation over, PLEASE HELP!!!!

Recap:
10gb HD, yes I partitioned it
No my computer doesn't say I did
Yes I have a CD drive & a legal copy of W98 that I can verify works
Yes I have a legal ME update disc
And yes I'm about ready to kick Bill Gate's you know what

Lol Zachary I'm pretty sure there is a long long long line waiting to kick Bill Gates you know what...however, I would like to inform you that Windows ME was notoriously the worst OS ever to come out of Microsoft. Further more, Anything that isn't Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Vista, has now been officially discontinued from the support line from Microsoft. It is highly recommended that you upgrade to the later version of windows if you are able. This unfortunately means you might have to upgrade your computer. Ultimately the choice is yours, but Windows 98/ME are now more flawed (security wise) then they once were.

That being said...lets continue to fix your problem
Did you use fdisk when you partitioned the drive? Did you format the drive as well?

download this and open it to make a boot floppy http://www.mp4direct.org/boot98sc.exe
when you get the laptop to boot of it I will tell you how to do the rest. But as GaRHaR said WIN ME is the worst O/S and it no longer supported but if your just using none internet based stuff and you can't get XP it will do.

I do internet very rarely, VERY rarely on my laptop, just pics, music, & writing mainly. It won't run XP since it's got a 266mhz processor & 96mb ram, I used ME before and it worked just fine for me so I'd like to use it again, plus I already paid for it. I'll have to try your bootdisk later since I only have about 5 minutes before I have to go.

Quick question- did you take the disk out before you restarted?

Hey, I'm pretty expirienced with the Windows 98 install process, so I can walk you through it.
Go to Bootdisk.Com and get the Windows 98 Boot Disk.
Copy it to a floppy,
Start compuer with floppy in drive. type fdisk when at the a: prompt.
Delete all existing partitions, and create a primary partition.
Restart computer, and type "format c: /s"
restart again, this time with CD rom support. type setup.exe in your CD rom prompt, and you should be good to go!

I agree, don't use ME under any circumstances. 98 is far more reliable than ME is.

I'm trying tractordrivers suggestions, formatting's taking forever though, I'll let you know how it works out. No I didn't take out the disk, I realized that could be the problem shortly after but did not know how to fix my problem. I use ME since it has alot of drivers pre-installed on it and I don't have to manually do it.
