Thumbs up No OS and it's my fault?

Hi,
Have a Compacq Presario 5050 w/256...when I receieved it Win Me was installed. I wanted Win98SE (which I own-Legit) so only those who have gone before or the man in the moon or some little green men know what happened.
The situation is someone (I have a cat and dog) too, did something. I have an A:\prompt...so I did all the boot disk stuff...the problem is I can't find BIOS...tried every key F10 does nothing...none of the F's do, esc, ctrl..etc I tried them all, is there a combo?
I can get to C:\ now but it does not recognize my software because it is HP (I guess).
I should have known better, but I am self taught and have done clean installs, memory etc. on several machines. So I figured I could handle this. Each day I sit there something new happens.
I do believe I have C:\ formatted and ready now (this happened today). Now what do I do about the WIN98SE?
I can't get another copy (except from the net) cause I am disabled and houseboud alot of the time and I have that dreaded "Limited Income"...So since this was a gift can somone give me a clue?
Thanks,
Harleyearl

According to research... some Compaqs have a Phoenix Bios:

Try these:
Phoenix BIOS: (F1), (F2), or (Ctrl)(Alt)(Esc)
Phoenix BIOS: - Ctrl Alt S
Phoenix BIOS: - Ctrl S
Phoenix BIOS: - Ctrl Alt Ins

I also read that the F10 button must be pressed when the cursor is in the upper right corner of the screen-- I usually just keep tapping the designated key until it says "entering setup"

a few ideas anyway.

Madmonkey, Sorry I did not realize that I had done a double posting. It was not intentional...I am truly disabled and had a stroke awhile back. Sorry again I guess these computer things get me a bit confused. I will make note of any posts I make in the future as not to duplicate my mistake.

Hey-- In a case like that we have to be a little "flexible" imho.

A helpful tip-- if you click on the "MY PCHF" link on the site navigation panel at the left side... you can open your control panel-- where there is a link called "find all posts" or "find all threads started by" harleyearl999-- make it easier for you to keep track. You can do the same thing by clicking on your username in any post by you. 3 ways to help.
