Windows 95, 98 & ME - ibm thinkpad password problem posted in the Operating Systems forums; ok so i know this sounds dumb but i have to attach the paper clip on the jumper pad and then turn the laptop on is that how it goes?...

so do i just lay the paperclip on top of the jumper pad or attach it somehow?the manual doesnt say,any ideas?

Does the jumper look like 2 small pins?
If so just touch the clip across for a few seconds.
DON'T DO IT WHEN ON!!

whoops!!!yes the jumper looks like 2 small pins,i tried it last night just laying it over the top and then i turned it on as said in the manual and all it did was give me an error code 173

Ok Sharjen I want to ask you a simple question.
I know what you said in your original post but I'm going to ask if this laptop had a BIOS password set right from the beginning?
The reason I ask is that some laptops have a manufacturer BIOS password set into an eprom chip which cannot normally be erased.

i brought it second hand from gumtree but we didnt have to put a password in when it came on,to be honest i only checked to make sure that there wasnt anything naughty stored on there because my daughter is only 10,but shes better on a pc than i am which is why i got her one
