Question [Answered] How do I get my Aunt out of my computer?

(My first post) My Aunt gave me her old computer, it had more memory and a bigger hard drive than mine. It's an eTower 333cs with Windows 98, factory installed so no Windows CD. I installed the upgrade to Windows 98se from my CD. I modified the Owner info in regedit to show my name but my aunt's name shows up everywhere else, as a user, cookies from my online sites are in her name even after I deleted all cookies. I am hoping that one of you wonderful, brilliant experts can tell me how to (easily!) replace her name with mine on the entire system.

Hi Carol,

Welcome to PCHF.

It's been a while since I've used Windows 98, so bear with me.

There's no safe, direct and clean way to clear her off completely I'm afraid, and things like Microsoft Office for example would have used her name and/or computer name during the installation.

In Control Panel, Users, you can create an account for yourself here. Next time you reach the logon screen, you can enter your new username here. Depending on how Windows is setup, I may also create a clean desktop for you also. There's no point in creating a password for yourself for this logon, since pressing the escape key will automatically bypass you at this point.

To clean her off web pages:
- Go to Control Panel, Internet Options.
- From the sounds of it, you have already deleted the files and cookies from here.
- Click on the Content tab, and you should see a section called AutoComplete. Click on the Settings button within this section, and you should be able to clear her details from all the forms in Internet Explorer.

Is there anywhere else in Windows she appears?
