Default [Resolved] Error installing 98.

Ive never messed with 98 or installed it but jeez this thing sucks.

I formatted the HD with Secure eraser because i had no other way.

I put in the Windows 98 install disc, and it goes through the steps of installing but very soon it says "needs to restart computer" for something. SO i restart and go throush same exact things, and when i actually get to the blue screen it says "error, cannot format HD" or something to that effect.

I know im supposed to have some sort of Start up disc but i cant seem to find a tutorial that explains how to do it with any other operating system besides 98.

Again im a noob to 98 or any other OS besided XP. Any help, suggestions, ideas?

I might just try and get ahold of ME or 2000 but are those any easier?

Hi Donpoppito

What you need is a 98 boot disk as well as the 98 cd install disk.
Go into the bios and make sure the first boot sequence is A (Floppy), insert the boot disk and when it asks, press "start 98 without cdrom support" for the moment press yes.
It will then go to an A prompt like so
A:/

Type fdisk, enable large disk support and if it comes back saying there is no primary dos partition would you like to create one press yes.
Are you with me so far?

Yea i understood that, but i still need to make a boot disc, and the only tutorials i can find are using 98 itself. I found bootdisk.com but that didnt help either. And i couldt find one on Microsoft.com either.

So how do i make a boot floppy from the install disc using XP?

Don
What do want to install?
98 or XP?
If 98 you will need a boot floppy disk
If XP the boot files are on the XP CD

Im installing 98. On a second computer, i need the boot floppy to install 98. I cant find an article on how to make the boot floppy from the install cd. The only ones explain how to make a 98 boot floppy using 98 itself. I need to find out how to make a 98 boot floppy from the 98 install disc on my computer that is running XP.

Don

Windows 98 and Windows XP are completely different operating systems in terms of files structures etc.
98 runs on a dos platform
XP has it's pedigree in NTFS or New Technology File System.
If you want to install 98 then you need a boot disk from Bootdisk.Com get the one containing a ramdrive.
You can't get a 98 boot floppy disk off your XP machine even if it's running under a FAT32 system.
Like I have said, to install 98 you will need the 98 boot floppy disk and a 98 cdrom.
