Hello Michael

Welcome to PC Help Forums

May I ask why you would want to do this?

I don't think you can make anything FAT32 unless it's at least 512 MB. Floppies only hold 1.38 MB formatted to FAT.
You can make a 512MB thumb drive FAT32, but you will actually loose space more than you gain.

Hi Wolfeymole and thanks for the response!

I have a BIN file that either needs a FAT 12 or a Fat 16 format - I really think it is a FAT 12. Asked for the FAT 16 as well to have it for future as needed. I have some still good after all these years digital audio gear and the OS upgrade is on an old FAT 12 (or maybe FAT 16) file format. I can only format a floppy disk with FAT 32 FDISK (which I have) and is in my current OS, Windows XP, (supported anyway as it is NTSC? file format in XP that will support FAT32), to my knowledge anyway. I am really a novice about all this. All I know is I went to re-install an OS in an Akai DL-1500 with the latest version software, formatted the disk with FAT32 (tried a MOS-DOS format as well) and copied the BIN file to floppy loaded it in the machine and am getting a “invalid code in ROM” message on the machines’ display. The OS did not load. I know it could also be a hardware issue (bad floppy drive etc…) but wanted to try to see, if it wasn’t too hard to get, how a FAT 12 (or 16) format would perform.
Thanks again…
Michael

Hi tractordriver88:

Not sure what all that means except I am not wanting to format a Hard drive but a floppy disk to load an OS version specific to an Akai DL-1500. The OS is in the form of a BIN file. Thanks for any and all help – I have the BIN file – but do not know how to format a floppy disk with a FAT 12 and/or FAT 16.

Thanks!
Michael

Hey madmatt2006:

Yea that's good for the FAT16 (Window95) but what about the late seventies early eighties FAT 12 any takers? Early IBM? Is it on Bootdisk.com? PLUS I really want only to format one (or two) floppy disk(s) (1.44MB).

Thanks for the support – just have no clue how to do this…

Michael
