i re read the eprom info. so if i understand the info you can erase the emproms yourself. but hoe can i be sure that is where the problem is?
and can i buy one of the lights at a local computer shop or does it have to be special ordered?

Without knowing what program was used to write to the chip we can't go any further.
The only other way would be to contact the original owner, which I guarantee would be corporate, and retrieve the password from them as they would have ordered the ibm's directly from the manufacturer with eprom passwords already set.
Seeing as the machine is out of the Ark anyway I wouldn't bother chasing this ghost.

Eprom programming requires special equipment, either stand alone, or computer interfaced. Either way its pretty expensive. If the motherboard has a seperate eprom for the password like Wolfeymole said, it could have other information on it that would render the machine useless if erased. If you just want tinker with this and get it going, try this little utility:
SIW - System Information for Windows - Software, Hardware, Network
It has a lost password retrieval tool that may work, or you can google password retrieval. There are programs available but they would probably be considered taboo on this forum. You can also look on ebay for a replacement motherboard, and go to the mb mfgs website, and see if you can get a manual for it.

I doubt if SIW, good as it is, could find it Uncleed, as it can't find my BIOS password which, albeit is on an eprom, is far less secure than a specifically manufactured eprom or eeprom set password.

Ok, i didnt know if it would or not, it finds most of my passwords, but i dont use a bios password, my motherbord doesnt support it. I have other programs that will find almost any password, but even they may not work in a case like this. Also, i didnt want to mention them as they may be against the rules, Ill leave that up to you or the other staff.

Maybe by redoing the "power off" remove the batt cell from the moh\therboard for a week if it needs to be.. to me it's only a matter of all the caps on these boards ..then try again it has to work.
If not look /go to IBM site an flash the bios itself.
