Windows 95, 98 & ME - [Answered] Help posted in the Operating Systems forums; I have windows me on my computer....I tried to load a game on it and when I tried to reboot it will hang in the windows me window...I have tried ...

I have windows me on my computer....I tried to load a game on it and when I tried to reboot it will hang in the windows me window...I have tried to reboot in safe mode and it will not let me...the message I recieve is windows could not upgrade file...I have the methods to solve this if I could only get into the computer,,,I do not have a me cd. I fdownloaded a boot disk from Bootdisk.Com and wehn I rum it i get a message to remove the disk and hit any key to proceed...it locks up...

I cannot help you very much mate, you've got buckleys if you do not have your Win ME cd.

The only thing I think may help you, is Trevs How to run Windows ME well V5.

It will help you get Win ME running reasonably well, I used to use it pretty frequently till I woke upto the fact that Win ME was not going anywhere fast except the bin...

thanks...thats is were it is going for me too if I can only get back into my system....do you think if i take it to a computer repair shop they can help me..or can i change the hard drive or will i still have the same problems?

Hi Comp D

Go into the bios and set the boot sequence to floppy first.
Insert your boot disk and when you get to the C prompt type scanreg /restore
Note the space between reg and the /

Wolfy..thats just it I cant get to a c prompt or dont know how one...but when I try to reboot with the floopy in it says to remove disk from drive a and press any key to restart..and it freezs on me...I have tried dafe mode as well

Did you go into the bios to change the boot order?
The reason it is giving you that message is because it trying to boot from another source namely the hdd.
