Question [Answered] nonworking boot disk

Hi, I'm trying to reformat the harddrive on a machine that has Windows ME, but it's not recognizing the disk at a boot up disk. It prompts to remove the non system disk and press any key. I also tried a DOS boot disk and I'm able to get to the A:/ prompt, but when I do a format C: /s, it says "this program cannot run in DOS mode. I don't know what this means? What do I need to do to initiate the format execution?

Hello Bowl
You have not adjusted the bios boot sequence so as to boot from the floppy drive.
Enter the bios and do so.
Make sure the boot floppy disk is in and at the A: prompt type format c: so it looks like so;

A:/format C:
don't bother with the S switch.

Wolfeymole, I appreciate your response. I have gone into the bios and set the boot sequence, my machine reads the floppy, but says "remove disks or other media, press any key to restart". I downloaded the boot disk from bootdisk.com, which I believe is valid, but is just not booting the machine. Do you have any other suggestions?

With the message youre getting, it sounds like either a bad floppy, or the files didnt get copied correctly. It sees the floppy, but its not booting to it. Maybe try another one. All of my floppies are getting old, and sometimes i get one that wont work, even though it formatted ok. Theres also the possibility of a corrupt download too.
