Default [Fixed] Message after WIN98 LOGO

I was wondering if there is anyway to get rid of this message after WIN98 startup:

Cannot find a device file that may be needed to run Windows or a Windows application.
The Windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this device file but no longer exists. If you deleted this file...........

MRTRATE.vxd Press any key to continue and
brmemory.vxd Press any key to continue

I do hit enter and the system loads fine but is there a way to eliminate this process and viewing of this message or do I have to live with it...........very curious and thanks for any help you can suggest.

Hello KCD123

Have a look here Missing MrtRate.vxd Error Message When You Start the Computer
and have you had a Brother printer as that second error appears to be a file appertaining to it.

Thank you for quick response. Yes I believe I had a Brother printer installed with this computer and I am not sure if I had Quicken Books installed for the mrtrate.vxd file but in any case I dont have any of the disks to reinstall so does that mean there is no way to remedy this problem ?
Thanks

Run a search for these 2 entries and if there is more than 1 of each let me know what they are.

I tried to run a "find files or folders" search for these two files but not were found on the hard drive....is this what you wanted me to do ?
Thanks for all your help!

Yes kcd that is what I wanted you to do.
It seems there are no folders remaining as has been shown so;
Click Start, Run and type Regedit
In the Registry Editor Edit tab click Find and type in the the first file that we mentioned.
Delete it when found.
Repeat this method for the second file.

Back up before you do anything just in case, this is standard procedure when dealing with the registry.

OK..deleted the one file but cannot find the brmemory.vxd file in the registry at all. Does it have anything to do with the SYSTEM.INI file or I am just stuck with the way it is now and live with it ?
Thanks for all you help so far!
