Have you emptied the recycle bin? If its still in the recycle bin, you can restore it from there.

Hi Vamp,

All these System Tools are just shortcuts to other locations on your computer.

%SystemRoot%\ is normally where windows is installed - normally C:\Windows

Character Map - %SystemRoot%\system32\charmap.exe
Disk Cleanup - %SystemRoot%\system32\cleanmgr.exe
Disk Defragmenter - %SystemRoot%\system32\dfrg.msc
Files and Settings Transfer Wizard - %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\usmt\migwiz.exe
Scheduled Tasks - %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\::{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}\::{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}
Security Center - %SystemRoot%\system32\wscui.cpl
System Information - "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo\msinfo32.exe"
System Restore - %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

If you browse to these locations, you can right click on each and drag the icon to a new 'System Tools' Directory and Create Shortcuts to them...very simple

I can't find them, and when I type it into run, it says windows cannot locate them...

Actually this PC is pretty much screwed. I suspect the hard drive is corrupt or has errors. When I run Scan Disk, it doesn't finish, even after 2 days. I can't defrag becuase it runs scan disk at the start and it never finishes.

It's my friends PC and yesterday I installed AVG, Ad-Aware, Spy-Bot etc. No viruses found, 74 Adware and 7 Spyware. What should I do, I told him I'd fix it...

If you have the system restore disk, that's probably the easiest answer.

Scandisk *should* complete if you start the computer in MS DOS mode. Another option is to create a boot disk (format a floppy disk and click "create system disk" when you format it), and put the scandisk.exe file on that disk. Then, start the computer from the floppy and voila!

As to the files, deleting the folder shouldn't remove them entirely, but there's an easy way to check. Just search for them! Search for cleanmgr.exe and if it finds that, you know the others are there too -- windows just isn't looking in the right place for them.

Worse case scenario, you may have to download the files from another computer running winME (or online, if you can find them). I happen to have a WinME computer, so if you want help with that, PM me and I'll do my best to help you.

Of course, if you end up downloading files, no matter WHERE you get them from, do yourself a favor and run AV on them before installing them, just to be safe!

Bah, i didn't see windows ME before My bad...

Format. Format. Format. Break the Windows ME CD, throw it in the bin and get him a copy of Windows XP.

That's my advise.

Either that, or run scan disk in dos mode as above (thanks Jeanna) and then try and run defrag again.

I think I'll tell him to get a new PC, I just spent all of last week fixing my Hard Drive so I am in no mood to fix his. His PC is about six years old anyway.
