Default [Fixed] No sound

Friends: I am running a Dell 731 MHz computer with onboard sound card SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio. I downloaded Windows 98SE drivers for the sound card 4 times. The SoundMax icon shows up in my system tray, but no speaker icon. Multimedia has no reference to this sound card either. My system can dual boot with Windows XP and the sound works fine with XP. Any ideas what's wrong? Thanks for any help.

Hello Wakenaam,

In Windows XP, can you find out what driver you are using there.

- Go to My Computer, Control Panel, System.
- Click on Hardware tab, followed by Device Manager.
- Scroll down to the section called Sound Video and Game Controllers.

From this section, tell me what is listed there (Except for any codecs, video capture or modem devices).

MadMonkey: Whew! That was fast. Thanks for your response. I see "wave device for voice modem" with no yellow marks. Cheers!!!

Hi Wakenaam, can you tell me what it shows when you dual boot to WinXP?
