Default [Resolved] start up problem!!

When i try to turn on my computer it starts the process but when it gets to the applying your settings screen it 99 times out of 100 cuts off and starts again or freezes on that screen.This leads to me having to wait hours to get on the machine.

The OS is Windows ME

Hi ScottyBoy...
The problem is ME.

Are you able to load into Safe Mode?

Hi, not sure if it'll go into safe mode but probably will. (it's my brothers PC and he was just posting this question while he was up at mine)

If it will boot into safe, what are the steps after that?

Cheers

If it boots into safe mode (it will take a long time to boot into it if it does at all) click on Start -> Run and then type in sfc

This will scan the computer for all changed/missing/corrupt system files, replacing any as needed. Once finished, restart computer normally and see if it works.

If that doesn't work, a reinstall of windows should work.

Right, it appears that my brother is a ******* (hope it's not heriditry) and his OS is 2000 Pro and not ME as he said.

What's the advice now?

ME and 2000 came out at the same time...millenium was 2000..not entirely his fault....just mostly

sfc can still be ran with win2k,

Start -> Run -> sfc /scannow
(i believe...someone may know for sure)
