Default [Resolved] Modem drivers install in W98SE

I'm asking for the correct method to install the modem drivers on a system I just reformatted & installed Windows 98SE.
I obtained several different versions of the drivers & put them all on a single floppy. Some are .exe files & some are .zip files. I don't have a compression utility installed as of yet, but I can download 7-zip.

Hi Sweets,

Huge apologie for the delay in gett ing back to you.
Welcome to The PCHF.

If the driver/install files you have downloaded are .exe, you should just be able to double click on the file and it will automatically install the modem.
Alternantively if you see some .dll and .inf files you can also manually install the modem.
Try the automated way first and get back to us if that doesn't work and we an guide you through the process.

GEE WHIZ!!
Nobody else told me that. They all suggested I create a folder on my Desktop, send each driver file one at a time, open all files & work the "Have Disk" button to death. I have several different driver files I downloaded to floppy, some .zip & some .exe. The .zip ones I open with the 7-zip utility but none seem to end up in the .INI file. What am I doing wrong?? The modem has some Atech insignias & some PCTEL feratures, how's a guy to know what he's got?? I've been using the Atech ATS-256 driver files but had no luck
Also I didn't get an email that you guys responded just took pot luck. Any way to change this??
Someone sent me an email for a Russian speaking forum, www.rutalk.au. Is there any free program to translate?
Sorry for all the questions.

Hi Sweets,

If you could give me more detail on what's on your modem, I might be able to find a driver, for the moment you might want to try some of the drivers here, and see how you get on.

On the board itself it says" PCTM02 Ver:1.0". On the largest chip it says all the following: "PCtel" underneath "PCT789T" underneath that "9836 K014" & finally "JAPAN K". On a large square thing sticking up it says "Atech ATS-256". This is an Acer PII made around 1998 or '99 Award BIOS. When I go to the Device Manager tab it says "PCI Communication Device" with a big yellow question mark in front of it. I reformatted & reinstalled Windows 98SE in this system.

Default PCtel HSP Micro Modem 56

The Everest Home 220 utility identified the modem as PCtel HSP Micro Modem 56. I keep downloading & installing different modem drivers for it for Windows 98SE ( I always uninstall the previous drivers & reboot after installing the new one), but I'm still not able to get online (dialup ISP). Keep getting the same messages, "The driver does not support your hardware. Please check with your vendor" & "Unable to communicate with your modem". I know the drivers are being installed cause I check the Device Manager after. Any thoughts on what could be the problem?
Thanks

Default Can't dial up

The modem drivers are installed properly but I still can't dial up. Does anyone know the step by step in Windows 98SE anymore?
